Day 3 is almost at an end. It is now 5:30 PM, and I have not had a single drop of alcohol. It is pretty darn great. While I would not say today was easy, it was not as hard as I thought. I believe the main reason was that I just let myself be. I took the time to rest, to read, to be with myself without judgments.

I finished reading “No mud, no lotus” by Zen Buddhist master Thích Nhất Hạnh and can highly recommend it. The text, the message, and the lessons shared are so simple but so powerful. Also, you do not have the be a practicing Buddhist for this to be of value.

This quote hit home for me:

“Again, we begin with ourselves to understand our own true nature. As long as we reject ourselves and continue to harm our own body and mind, there’s no point in talking about loving and accepting others.” (from “No Mud, No Lotus: The Art of Transforming Suffering”

These questions are also something I pondered today:

“Are you at war with your body? Do you neglect or punish your body? Have you truly gotten to know your body? Can you feel at home with your body?”

I do feel that I have been at war with my body. I have not been listening to what lessons it is trying to teach me. What message it was sending me daily. I will no longer merely be an onlooker. I will no longer try to cover up my emotions with toxic substances. I will instead learn to feel these emotions and look deeply to understand the lessons I am taught.

I am not naive, though. I know this will be hard, but I am finally ready to undertake this journey.

Today was a good day. So I will close out today’s post with the following mantra(from the same book) I will be using daily. Hopefully, it can be helpful to someone else out there.

May I be peaceful, happy, and light in body and spirit.
May I be safe and free from injury.
May I be free from anger, afflictions, fear, and anxiety.

Here is to many, many more sober days! ✌️
