Personally I use the fact that I have one big client that covers my living expenses as a means to experiment with ideas. I make things and put it out there. I do some marketing, try to get a momentum going. If I see something is just dead in the water, I take it down.

Sometimes though, or most times? :), I actually build things I need myself so, I end up leaving it up with an audience of one. Who knows what the future might hold.
